We went through a pandemic, a Europe war and an economic recession due to inflation, but we became much stronger, without fear of growing and being better every day… Today we only know how to look forward. Tourism is a fundamental

Tourism is a fundamental economic activity for the generation of wealth and employment in Portugal and preliminary tourism data for December 2022 are encouraging. In 2022, the tourism sector approached the record values of 2019 in the main indicators of overnight stays (-0.9%) and guests (-2.3%), having exceeded the values in tourist revenues (+15.4% ). ​​​​​​​​ 26.5 million guests were registered, of which 15.3 million were foreigners, which represents a recovery of 83.3% and 158.5%, respectively, compared to the same period last year. However, these values are still (-2.3%) and (-6.8%), respectively, from those recorded in 2019. With a total of 69.5 million overnight stays in 2022 (46.6 million overnight stays from foreigners and 22.9 million overnight stays from nationals), with five occupying the top 5 of issuing markets for Portugal in 2022, in this indicator : _ United Kingdom: 8.9 million (+191.9%) _ Germany: 5.4 million (+141.9%) _ Spain: 5.0 million (+89.4%) _ France: 4.4 million (+97.0%) _ USA: 3.4 million (+327.4%) In terms of tourist revenue, and according to data from the Bank of Portugal, the accumulated result for the 12 months of 2022 reached 21.1 billion euros, an amount 109.7% higher than that recorded in 2021 and 15.4% higher than that recorded in 2019.
